| I wish I could say I get really annoyed trying to read online messages that are full of texting shortcuts, but in reality, I just don't read them! We now have a whole generation of people who are clueless about spelling rules and sentence structure. Here are a few examples I found recently, and I'd like to see others add more: i am workin at mugs n jugs <name of city removed> i am a waitress i have never done it b4 but i am willing to do watever 4 my lil gurl . Yea i would lyk dat we should get together n do a playdate the babies would problely lyk dat dey bout da same age. n ur lil one is a cutie to dats y we should put to beatuiful babies together lol n naw believe u would have fun wit me i am krazy fun lol ight ma well holla at da gurl u take care Can you say run-on sentence? Hey! We are all doing good, <name removed> is getting chunky and <name removed> is sweet as pie =) lol but how are all of you? I read a book and it made me think of you, I thought if you havent already heard about it, that it might be something you are interested in. Its a book called Fireproof and then there is a book called The love Dare and I havent bought that one yet but my friend has it & its amazing...but you may have read them or heard about them already lol but I wanted to tell you about them just in case you havent! I am glad the babies are doing good & I hope all is well! It's certainly more difficult for me to READ these posts since the spelling and syntax are all wrong ... is it more difficult to WRITE like that as well, or is it normal for the younger generation to write like that? Inquiring minds want to know! Share your texting nightmares. | | |
| Over on Mamaroo, someone was talking about flat diapers, and how they did not look substantial enough to serve as diapers. I cloth-diapered all three of our kids, and mostly used the flat birdseye diapers. T his was partly because that's what I was given, and partly because they dry so much more quickly than the pre-folds. It was suggested that I post a video showing how to fold these diapers, so here we go. I used a piece of flannel print for this demo, so you could actually see what I'm doing. Also, the piece of fabric I used was much smaller than a regular birdseye diaper would be. I used what would fit easily on my desktop First is the Ice Cream Cone fold. This is the fold I learned from my mother and the one I used exclusively. The nice thing about this fold is that, as baby grows, you can adjust both the width and the length of the diaper by adjusting how far in you fold. The second is called an Origami fold. It seems to be pretty popular, as I found many demonstrations of it on the web. I never used it, but it seems to be a little short in the rise for my liking. The Origami also doesn't look to be adjustible size-wise. Of course, I don't have a baby to try it on LOL.
I hope these videos are helpful. | | |
| A story from my daughter: So, I always know something is awry when I am not met at the door by a barking dog. Such was the case tonight. I unlocked the door, came in the house, and Drake kind of slunk up to me, hanging his head. Uh oh, I think – what has he done. So, I embark on a quick inventory of the house. First thing I notice is that there are only 3 bags of cookies on the kitchen counter – when I left the house this morning there were 6 – ready for the cookie-exchange party Rob and I are going to tomorrow night. As I search the rest of the house, I find empty baggies here and there and now know where the cookies went. When I finally get to the one carpeted room in the house, I see that the cookies he ate must have given Drake a tummy ache, because he’s pooped all over the carpet! Aargh! I pick up a little, and decide it’s time for a drink and a call to my mom before getting out the carpet cleaner. I also text a few choice words to Rob about HIS dog! Needless to say, there will be bakery cookies for the party tomorrow night, because I am NOT baking tonight! | | |
| Enjoyed a nice dinner with Mom & Daddy and Cathy & John. We didn't over indulge - had a nice assortment of food, good conversation and just a nice relaxing time. I roasted the turkey, did light appetizers and provided rolls and the bar. Cathy made stuffing, pies and did the gravy - I'll never get the hang of good gravy! Mom made mashed potatoes, mashed rutabaga and roasted carrots with some other root. All in all, it was a pleasant day. We spoke with Gina and Sarah on Thursday, and Corey called on Friday. It was good to hear from them and know that all is good in their lives. After being a lazy bum on Friday, I had a good time sewing on Saturday and Sunday. I finished p.j.'s for Gina and Sarah, finished Gina's apron, and got a good start on Sarah's apron. Next will be Katherine and Sean's p.j.'s and then some kind of gift-card holder for Rob & Justin. Sarah's box of goodies arrived yesterday. She was very pleased because her dryer is out of commission, so the 3 holiday shirts meant she could go another couple days without going to Betty's to dry! Justin was also pleased to see the little bottle of Crown - he'd had a bad day and it was just the thing Oh, and I read Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher over the weekend too. Pretty good book, but it was sometimes hard to read because it was written in old english dialect. We get so used to "American" English, that reading real English gets a little difficult LOL. I also finished The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve. It was also a good book, although I was a little disappointed in the ending. | | |
| So much to be thankful for. We both have decent, and for today - stable, jobs. Our children are happy in their lives. Our parents are healthy. We are enjoying growing old together. Our needs are few. Life has been good to us and for that, we are thankful. | | |
